Australia is a massive place and to list ALL the places to visit, you would be here for a lifetime. Instead, we are going to focus on the area in and surrounding Sydney. If you are going to go to Australia, this might as well be where you start!

1. Sydney Opera House

Of course, you can’t head to Sydney, Australia without having a peek at the Sydney Opera House. Think about it – it’s probably one of the most iconic places in the world! Its unique construction is now known to represent this country, in much the same way as Big Ben is representative of London, and the Eifel Tower is of France. It was originally opened to the public in 1973 by Queen Elizabeth II and since then has become the concert place of many a famous star and starlet. With over 3,000 performances on a yearly basis, it has an audience size of around two million annually.

2. Sydney Harbor Bridge

If you are already in Sydney, you may as well head right on over to the Sydney Harbor Bridge, which is almost as iconic as the opera house itself. Known to the locals by the name of “The Coathanger”, it was opened a little way before the opera house, originally in 1932. You can see amazing views of the harbor with the guided tours that happen, taking you right up into the top of the span at the centre of the bridge, both during the day where you can see the beautiful views, and during the night where coloured lights make everything that little bit more breathtaking.

3. Sydney Markets

During your time in Sydney, why not take a peek at some of the many Sydney markets this amazing city has to offer? From Bondi Beach market that takes place every Sunday, to North Sydney market which is only held once monthly, (every second Saturday of the month) you can find pretty much anything and everything that you are looking for. It has a very smart vantage point of being able to overlook not only the Sydney Cove, but also the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbor Bridge too! With a varied and fascinating mix of animals, you will find creatures here that you might not get the chance to see elsewhere in the world. Not only that but you can enter some of the enclosures (for a small fee) and play your part alongside the zoo keepers for a totally amazing day out!

If you are looking for a little something different from your Sydney day out, you will want to head over to the Chinese Garden of Friendship which is nestled right at the south end of Darling Harbor. From here, you will find that you only have a short walk to Chinatown, opening up plenty more adventures in your Australian journey, and enables you to have a few moments of quiet solitude amongst some of the most beautiful flowers and plants in the world.
