With the news that Snowdonia will soon be home to the longest zip wire in Europe, something we broached in Top 10 Spring/Summer Getaways Part 3, we decided that it would make perfect sense to take a closer look, and all to investigate the best zip wires all over the world. You know – so you don’t have to!
It’s all going on in North Wales; Penrhyn slate quarry to be exact.
This will be the site of the new longest zip wire in Europe, making it stand out along with some of the best in the world. You will travel up to 200 meters up, before coming back down to earth on a zip wire that goes for a mile. Yu will reach speeds of up to 75mph and also experience a guided truck tour that takes you through the days and history of the working mine. It really will be an experience to blow your mind!
If you are a thrill seeker and love a good adventure holiday, then you should definitely check out Zip World Snowdonia, and also a couple of these other best zip wires from around the world too:
Thailand – Chiangmai Jungle Flight
For tours that last 4 to 5 hours, or 6 to 7 hours, (rates apply) you can experience the ultimate in getting back to nature. You will have great fun with a complex loop of cables in this zip wire experience, and when you are not attached to your harness, you will be making your way through various jungle obstacles, including abseiling giant trees. Playing around in the rainforest has never been so much fun!
Haiti – Dragon’s Breath Zip Wire
Let’s be honest; with a name like Dragon’s Breath, you have to look a little closer, don’t you? Set in the beautiful resort of Labadee, you will experience the longest zip wire over crystal blue waters. The total length of this bad boy is over 2,600 feet, and you will be flying along up to 500 feet above the sea level. Before heading over the beautiful blue bay, you will scoot right down the steep side of a mountain, and although the ride is a relatively short one, it sure is exhilarating with the feel of the water-gliding being described as “out of this world!”
Alaska – Icy Strait Point Zip Line
This is a zip wire experience that pretty much has it all – a ride of a minute and a half in length will take you at speeds up to 60 mph, over 5,330 feet long, and incorporating a vertical drop of 1,300 feet. When you add to the mix the fact that you are 300 feet high off the ground when you start off, you have the ultimate thrill-seeking experience.
You even race to the bottom with this one, having six riders launched at the same time. At the same time as racing your opponents to the bottom, you can marvel over the delights of the countryside – Icy Strait and Port Frederick are beautiful places to fly over!
